Competition section accepts short films of all genres (fiction, animation, documentary, experimental, video art, S3D, etc.) that are not longer than 30 minutes and not older than 2 years. 2ANNAS considers short films as an independent genre which reveals the newest trends.

Two Islands, Jan Ijas, documentary, 2013, Finland, 6 min

The film is about two enormous rubbish dumps in New York’s Staten Island and Hart Island. The former was once the world’s larg- est rubbish dump but is now closed. The latter is a cemetery for unknowns and still in use. “Two Islands” bluntly asks, what does the existence of the two huge mountains of economic and social waste and rejected surplus tell us about our civilization and the “richest nation in the world”, and what kind of legacy will the future archaeologists find in them?

Richard, an unemployed 55-year-old, arrives 3 minutes late for his appointment at a job centre. An advisor, stifled by the limits of the system she works in, has no choice but to penalize him for his tardiness. To avoid plunging further into destitution, Richard takes desperate measures.

Malgorzata - an important politician - is going to her house by the lake. Her son - a drug addict – needs her help. Malgorzata asks her daughter for support. At home they find Malgorzata’s semiconscious son and a massacred body of a young girl. In the face of the tragedy, their relationship becomes complicated, disclosing their hidden grudges. The mother has to make the most difficult decision in her life.

Mikaela has changed her sex from male to female. On a night out she meets a guy who follows her home. The movie Undress me examines our perceptions of gender and the way our identity can be formed by the perceptions of others.
