PHOTO EXHIBITION 'THE SECRET LIFE OF DRAG QUEEN'

OPENING OF THE PHOTO EXHIBITION

KAŅEPES CULTURE CENTRE 28.11 / 19.00

The Secret Life of Drag Queen is photography series that consists of 17 portraits, which in itself is a part of a bigger project F*CK GENDER and shows the everyday life of Iceland’s drag artists. Latvian artist Kaspars Bekeris actively investigates how drag artists erase, make fun of or create new gender identity layers. The series gives an opportunity to get to know the lives that these artists lead outside of their shows. It’s, at the same time, a gender stereotype research and an attempt to illustrate an environment, which doesn’t adhere to the expectations of society about what is “normal”.

Kaspars Bekeris has been a TV reporter and a journalist for different mass media outlets for more than ten years. Kaspars first started to work on documentary photography to tell his own stories at first. For more than the last nine months he has been taking portraits of drag artists in Iceland.

The exhibition will be available for duration of the festival in Kaņepe Culture centre on ground floor.
