Baltic Analog Lab films: Ieva Balode

Ieva Balode is an artist and a founding member of the Baltic Analog Lab - a cinema artists collective, which practices the analogue filmmaking, advertising and education in Latvia and abroad. In her artistic practice she works with analog images - both moving and still. With her works she has participated in exhibitions and film festivals in Latvia and abroad. Her curatorial work includes various experimental film events in Latvia including screenings, performances, workshops and lectures. 

Baltic Analog Lab is a lab managed by artists, which examines the practice of experimental filmmaking and analysing.
As a collective it exists already a year, regularly organizing analogue and experimental cinema expositions, cinema performances, lectures and workshops. Now it is also a physical lab, where workshops are regularly held.

In the screening, Ieva will tell about the creation and functions of a lab managed by artists, how and why nowadays these kinds of collectives are establishing and why it is important to offer an alternative for filmmaking industry. As well as, the 8mm films made in the workshops will be shown.

Cells Obelisks is a cinema performance in which the viewer is invited in a hypnotic journey of characters, sounds and words, where the influence of the past illusion will be confronted and reconciled in a particular city.

Roberts Gobziņš un lentinieki

In 1979, Gobziņš started to lead discos, where his first songs were created. He studied in Riga Secondary school No.3, graduated in 1982. In the beginning of 1980s, he became a member of a band ‘Dzeltenie pastnieki’, wrote song lyrics and also sang some of the songs. In 1983, he was called in the Soviet army, after returning he continued his collaboration with the band. In 1986, he met Hardijs Lediņš, cooperated with NSRD, later followed a collaboration with West-Berlin DJ Westbam, as a result in 1990 a hit ‘Aka Aka’ was made with a stage name East Bam.
The beginning of the 90’s, Gobziņš spent in Germany, in 1992, he returned to Latvia and cooperated with different shows. In 1993, a collaboration with ‘Mikrofona ieraksti’ started, which published his solo album. In 1997, he participated in the performances of Lediņš and Rolštein’s opera ‘Rolstein on the Beach’.
